Banana

Banana

Animations - banana-01
A banana is the world’s most portable breakfast.
It is filling, need no cooking, is nutritious and it has its own bright yellow carrying case!

The banana is really a giant herbaceous plant. It does not have a woody trunk or boughs and dies after flowering. Its trunk is actually a ‘false stem’ made up of tightly rolled leaf blades and stalks.

Bananas grow well in hot, damp climate and soil that has good drainage. The plant originated in Asia but its cultivation spread to other tropical countries in South America and Africa. Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines are major banana producers. They are however, put in the shade by India which is the largest producer of bananas in the world, producing a mind-boggling 17 million tones of the fruit yearly.

Medicine

If we were feeling down in the dumps, eat a banana or two. Bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein component that the body converts into serotonin, a hormone that can lift a person’s mood. Ripe bananas are also packed with nutrition and energy.
